About Me

Dear Friend,

My name is Josette Smith and  I am the coordinator for the Appleton Visually Impaired People(VIP) support group.  The group is for anyone with visual impairments and meets at the Thompson Community Center for education, support, and socialization. Some members have been blind since birth and others are currently facing a vision loss.  One of our goals is to increase awareness in the community on issues around visual impairments, for example: going to schools and speaking to children and teenagers and working with the county on white cane law education related to traffic safety.

My group has decided to participate in this year’s Human Race on May 1st, 2010.  My family and members of the VIP group will be walking or running in the event.  Some additional information is available on the back of this letter.

We are very excited to have this opportunity to raise money toward our goals. The visually impaired population is growing so we as a community need to be aware of the issues they face. I never realized how many adults were experiencing some type of vision loss at a much earlier age than expected. Each time I meet with them I think, this could  be me someday.

So I am reaching out to you to consider making even the smallest donation!  I told the group that collecting a dollar from people will still add up!
